The story of Max Silberberg, a Wrocław entrepreneur, patron of the arts and one of the most important art collectors in pre-war Wrocław, told through the works that once belonged to his collection. The paintings bear witness to a world that is gradually disappearing: a collection falling apart under the pressure of Nazi persecution, the loss of wealth, home and, ultimately, freedom.

These intertwining timelines stretch from interwar Wrocław to contemporary museums and auction houses, tracing the fate of works of art that have changed hands, countries and continents, whilst the memory of the person to whom they once belonged has gradually faded.
